SEND, Inclusion and EAL

Horsham Montessori Nursery welcomes all children, and we are committed to promoting equality and diversity. We value each child as an individual and celebrate what they bring to the rich, diverse community of Horsham Montessori Nursery.

We believe in working positively with every child and family that comes to our nursery and our team includes a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) and Inclusion Co-ordinator (INCO), who ensures that the best possible support is available.

Some children at the nursery do not speak English as their first language (EAL). We try to find out as much about our children as we can, including all the languages they speak or are exposed to. Being able to understand and speak two or more languages is a wonderful skill. We will support children with EAL to develop their understanding and use of English at their own pace. We use lots of picture clues and gestures when explaining our routines.

If your child already has an identified special need, we will work with you to see how to meet this need in our nursery, and work alongside any existing support you have in place.

If you are concerned about your child’s development, please speak to us as soon as possible. We’ll make sure your child is actively monitored and assessed, and we’ll keep in close contact with you so that if we need to agree on a referral process or help you to access SEN support services, we can do so quickly and easily.
